Alceu Valença is one of the best and most popular Brazilian artists. He has recorded over 20 records, singing, playing the acoustic guitar and having composed most of the songs. Born in the Brazilian northeast, in July 1, 1946, he was interested in music from a very early age. Even though he finished his studies to become a lawyer, music has always been his main interest. Alceu's first record was "Molhado de Suor", released in 1974. Before that, he had participated in two other records, along with other artists: "Alceu Valença & Geraldo Azevedo" (1972), and "A Noite do Espantalho" (1974), the latter being the soundtrack of a movie he starred in as an actor. His style has the influence of rock and other contemporary international sounds, but is based mainly in Brazilian northeastern rhythms, such as frevo, baião, maracatu, coco, xaxado, embolada, toada and xote, among others. The poetic beauty and the energetic, involving rhythms in his songs, plus his strong stage presence, both help turn his shows into unforgettable performances. This homepage includes, for now in Portuguese only, a summary of his trajectory, his discography, the lyrics of his songs, a critique on his art, press coverage, and other aspects of his career. |
